My wife and I were driving near the mall in DC once and saw a young couple with bags on a corner with maps, obviously lost. Se we stopped and asked if they needed help. They were from Spain and trying to find a particular hotel. So we said we knew it was nearby and that we could just drive them. They were speechless and effusive with thanks when we dropped them off.

One tremendous shock is how Americans think they speak English when they don't. They speak…'Murican.

I love Wolter and he's almost always right. And Wolter is right that Americans are friendly and helpful. But, let's say that they are more readily friendly to certain types of people? Make no mistake. It depends. If your face is covered, if you look too weird? if you aren't white? Some Americans, might not be so friendly. Use common sense.

I realise this is an old video, but it's from around the time we were considering to drive Route 66. We cancelled those plans, because of hotels.

Every single hotel we checked, was overpriced and had no breakfast at all, and charged for wifi. Here in Norway, you almost always get breakfast included, and prices in the US were double or more compared to here. Car rental price was fair, though.

We have at least two companies here in Norway specializing in Route 66, driving either a motorcycle or car, or joining as a passenger. We contacted them both, and they charged over $11.000 (as driver with a rental car) for an 18 days package deal. They both said the prices were hugely inflated because of hotel prices.

So no, in my experience, forget about "budget" hotels, I don't think many such exists.

Yes, all the stereotypes are 100% true.

Everyone owns a gun and we all have a big Gulp and a giant hamburger within arms reach, inside our giant pick up trucks, at all times. They're located right next to our cross to the protestant Jesus and our American flag we salute every 20 minutes

No Wolter, Miami to Las Vegas isn't really that far. We're all a bunch of gluttons who insist on having our own vehicle so we can pollute as much as we want, just like every European wants to believe 🙄🙄🙄

The strangest things to me is how Americans talk to strangers, the forced small talk. Where I’m from small talk is rare, we stand in elevators quiet and mind our own business. I don’t even know the names of my neighbors. And tipping being the norm is crazy. I have never tipped in my entire life.

In my experience spending my vacations at US with relatives I had good and bad times there (most of the time good ones)
-The seniors and adult people are more aware you need help, for youngers not much.
Some people get upset when you speak your native language (don't know why) even if you are not talking to them 😮
-Yes the food sizes every time go there I try to get smaller sizes 😅
-If youe are white and tall they think you are from Europe, but guess what, others countries like México have white people.
-The only fake people I met were the ones from California specially the suthern ones, really snobby and materialistic
It's only my own experience and point of view

Travelled around America last year on a tour. I loved it, great place. Generally the people are friendly. They helped me as a tourist when i was in trouble. The food was good and the refills are handy on a really hot day. Where I'm from nothing is free. The only thing i didn't like was the coffee. Everything else was super. I will definitely be visiting again in the future.

It's true. American here. I just planned a trip with my mom. Driving from Portland Or to Las Vegas to Kansas City to New Orleans then to the grand canyon then back to Oregon. It's a 15 day drive LOL. And we in the usa see this as no big deal hahaah. And yes the usa is pretty friendly. The area that I have found the coldest socially is the pacnw. They are still polite though.

Louisville, Kentucky is a unique blend of 3 American regions. We have Northern progressive ideals, Southern hospitality, and Midwestern flair and aesthetic.

(We have our toes in all 3, but not North, South, or Midwest enough to be claimed by any. Lol)

i think i finally got it. Maybe it's obvious for some but i had to come up with that. Americans just have a lot of resorses and we europeans don't because we axhaused them long ago, so now we live by rules to use what we have left as efisiently as possible(smth similar to japan) and you just wonder around doing what comes to your mind. And that's why sometimes you are stupid, because you just don't need to know a lot to live in the US. Thus i think we can find nerd in america put him in europe and he will feel surrounded by likeminded
